Detroit Legal News Announces Protect MI Families Campaign Launch
Thank you to Detroit Legal News for featuring our campaign launch on their newspaper!
Below is the official release we sent out upon our launch. Detroit Legal News published a modified version, which you can read here.
"On April 21st, a newly-formed organization called Protect MI Families launched, promising to fight for greater consumer protection standards in Michigan. Protect MI Families is a Michigan-based consumer advocacy organization dedicated to protecting families from exploitation and holding powerful institutions accountable.
Protect MI Families’ issues to address, as of its launch, are insurance companies acting in bad faith, government employees and agencies operating without accountability, and the barriers injured workers face in receiving Workers’ Compensation. Protect MI Families hopes to advance consumer protection reform statewide and hold both parties accountable for siding with corporate interests over families.
Protect MI Families works across party lines to educate lawmakers, elevate real stories from Michigan families, and build a powerful coalition committed to fairness and accountability. This coalition consists of other organizations dedicated to similar causes and will continue to grow as Protect MI Families operates.
“Consumer protection is not acknowledged as a widespread issue in Michigan, despite how many families suffer from the state’s lack of accountability for corporate exploitation.” Lyra Opalikhin, the Campaign Director of Protect MI Families, states, “We want to build a real movement for consumer protection and corporate accountability across the state, elevating the stories of those who have been harmed to show why consumer protection reform is needed.”
Individuals interested in learning more about Protect MI Families can visit their website, or follow them on Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Bluesky. Specific inquiries can be directed to the Campaign Director at [email protected]."
